ISLAMABAD: The Senate of Pakistan has launched a dedicated mobile application to digitise its legislative business, marking an important step towards a technology-enabled and paperless Parliament.<\/p>\n
The launching ceremony was held at Parliament House on September 8, 2026, with Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani attending as chief guest. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja was also present at the ceremony.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the occasion, Shaza Fatima Khawaja described the initiative as a major advancement under Pakistan\u2019s Digital Nation agenda. She said the digitisation of Parliament reflected the government\u2019s commitment to modern, transparent and technology-driven governance.<\/p>\n
The minister said the initiative made digital governance practical, with a sovereign design, indigenous capability and an accountable structure. She added that efficiency in the House was not merely an administrative convenience but also a form of democratic responsiveness.<\/p>\n
Shaza Fatima Khawaja appreciated the leadership of the Senate Secretariat for driving the initiative. She also reiterated the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication\u2019s continued support for providing technical expertise, infrastructure and security frameworks required to sustain such projects across state institutions.<\/p>\n
Through the mobile application, Senators will be able to access legislative documents, the Order of the Day, bills, resolutions, committee reports and other parliamentary business directly on their smartphones and handheld devices.<\/p>\n
The application is aimed at removing the need for printed paperwork and making the legislative workflow more efficient. It will provide access to Senate agendas, bills and session schedules, along with a digital repository of legislative documents, motions and committee proceedings.<\/p>\n
The app will also issue timely notifications on ongoing parliamentary business, significantly reducing reliance on paper-based processes.<\/p>\n
The Senate mobile application is part of Pakistan\u2019s wider move towards e-governance. Similar digitisation efforts are already under way at the National Assembly and several provincial assemblies.<\/p>\n
As the government\u2019s focal ministry for coordinating technology-based reforms across public institutions, the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Parliament in the successful rollout and continued improvement of the application.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
