A review meeting on the implementation of the easy tax scheme for shopkeepers was held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani.<\/p>\n
The meeting decided that officials of the Federal Board of Revenue, in coordination with representatives of traders, will begin mapping markets and shops across the country from Friday.<\/p>\n
Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani directed the FBR to carry out mapping of bazaars and each shop in consultation with trader representatives. He also instructed that shopkeepers should be informed about the easy tax scheme during the mapping process.<\/p>\n
According to the directions issued in the meeting, FBR officers will visit markets along with trader representatives as per a daily schedule.<\/p>\n
The meeting was briefed that a technical issue relating to the \u201cother income\u201d column in tax returns, identified by traders through their complaints, had been resolved.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the meeting, Bilal Azhar Kayani said shopkeepers had been given a scheme of their own choice, and there was now no justification for not filing tax returns. He said penalties under the scheme had also been fixed with the consent and consultation of shopkeepers.<\/p>\n
The minister of state urged shopkeepers to take advantage of the 15-day extension in the deadline for filing tax returns.<\/p>\n
He said that after the expiry of the deadline, a shopkeeper would have to pay a penalty of Rs10,000 in the first month, Rs25,000 in the second month and Rs50,000 in the third month.<\/p>\n
The meeting reviewed in detail the implementation of the easy tax scheme and progress made so far. It was also decided that review meetings on the implementation of the scheme would continue.<\/p>\n
Trader leaders Ajmal Baloch, Kashif Chaudhry and Habib Fakhruddin attended the meeting. Member Strategic Transformation Dr Hamid Ateeq, Member Inland Revenue Operations Zubair Bilal and senior FBR officials were also present, while chief commissioners and commissioners from across the country participated through video link.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
