Its title, Shabnam, refers to morning dew, something delicate, temporary and difficult to hold for long. The track places Maanu and Zoha in two different emotional readings of the same relationship, with both artists revisiting shared moments from separate points of view.

Maanu starts the song from a space of uncertainty and mistrust, while Zoha answers from her own perspective. Their vocals do not move towards a simple resolution. Instead, they run alongside each other, keeping the tension intact and shaping the song like a conversation between two people living through the same relationship in very different ways.

The music video, directed by Fida Moin, extends this unease through a playful and surreal treatment. Everyday domestic scenes become increasingly exaggerated through Maanu’s point of view, as ordinary objects and gestures begin to carry unusual meanings and the line between reality and imagination starts to fade.

The tension reaches a breaking point at a birthday gathering that turns chaotic, with plates crashing into concrete walls as celebration gives way to disorder. Talal Qureshi also appears in the video as a DJ who arrives for what appears to be a party, only to find himself inside a home already overtaken by suspicion.

The visual setting has been shaped by Tanya Mirza’s Production Design and Art Direction, drawing on Brutalism and the dramatic shadows of German Expressionism. The world of the video is marked by high interiors, cool grey tones and concrete structures. Books are arranged in precise rows, a single staircase rises through the space, and a bare kitchen adds to the sense of a home that is recognisable but not entirely comforting.

Speaking about the release, Kamal Khan, Executive Producer of Coke Studio Nu.WAV, said, “Shabnam had this tension in it from the beginning that I really liked. Talal and Maanu had already started something together, and then Zoha came in and suddenly you had two people almost telling different versions of the same story. Fida really leaned into that with the film. He made the paranoia funny and strange without losing the uneasiness underneath it, and Tanya built this world where even normal things start to feel a little off. It all feels very specific to the song, which is really what we want with Nu.WAV.”

Shabnam brings together three artists associated with different areas of Pakistan’s contemporary music scene.

Maanu has spent nearly a decade developing his place in Pakistan’s indie, pop and hip-hop landscape. From Lahore’s grassroots music spaces, he has moved on to releases such as Melancholic, Khwaab and Kidhar? and Sweetu. His appearance with Annural Khalid on Jhol from Coke Studio Season 15 became one of his most widely recognised releases. His recent album Thikaana also expanded his catalogue with collaborations featuring Asim Azhar and Talha Anjum.

Zoha Waseem brings a background in classical and ghazal singing to contemporary pop. She first gained attention through performances honouring Madam Noor Jehan at Alhamra in Lahore and later reached wider digital audiences with releases including Majboor. Her music continues to connect traditional vocal training with progressive pop, synth-based production and modern songwriting.

Talal Qureshi, who produced the track, has long been associated with Pakistan’s electronic and producer-led music movement. For more than a decade, his work has moved between independent electronic music and mainstream pop. His earlier Coke Studio work includes producing Peechay Hutt from Season 14, while his wider catalogue includes AAG, Cricket Khidaiye and his full-length project TURBO.

With Kamal Khan as Executive Producer of Coke Studio Nu.WAV, Shabnam has been produced by Talal Qureshi and co-produced by Maanu. The song has been written by Maanu and Zoha Waseem, composed by Maanu, and arranged by Maanu and Talal Qureshi. Talal Qureshi has mixed the track, Sean Tallman has mastered it, and it was recorded at Sounds Good Studios with Shayaan Siddiqui as Recording Engineer.

The video has been directed by Fida Moin, with Salaar Yousufzai as Director of Photography. Tanya Mirza has led Production Design and Art Direction, while Faraz Sheikh and Team have handled Wardrobe Design and Styling. The project has been produced by Gali Films, with Iman Khan as Producer and Jamal Haroon and Zarmeen Ali as Associate Producers.

Shabnam by Maanu × Zoha Waseem, produced by Talal Qureshi, is now available across Coke Studio’s official digital platforms. The video can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEqbM_APWgs.

The release is the fourth of six Coke Studio Nu.WAV songs, following Dil, Rangeen and Maheya. Two more songs and their creative worlds are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
