ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan\u2013Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by its Convener Sanjay Perwani, met Turkmenistan\u2019s Ambassador to Pakistan Atadjan Movlamov at the Parliament House to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary relations and expand bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by National Assembly members Fateh Ullah Khan and Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan. Discussions covered inter-parliamentary engagement, bilateral trade, regional connectivity, economic cooperation, transport, energy and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Welcoming the Turkmen ambassador, Mr Perwani said Pakistan and Turkmenistan enjoyed longstanding and cordial relations based on mutual respect and friendship. He recalled Pakistan\u2019s early recognition of Turkmenistan\u2019s independence and reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s support for its policy of permanent neutrality.<\/p>\n
The convener underlined the need to enhance parliamentary contacts and proposed the formation of a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Parliament of Turkmenistan to help ensure regular dialogue and exchanges between the two legislatures.<\/p>\n
Both sides stressed the importance of finalising and operationalising the Pakistan\u2013Turkmenistan Transit Trade Agreement, particularly in view of Turkmenistan\u2019s landlocked status and the need for dependable transit routes.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Movlamov highlighted the scope for greater cooperation in trade, transport, energy and infrastructure. He also emphasised regional connectivity and the development of transport corridors.<\/p>\n
The two sides recognised the need to strengthen business-to-business contacts, facilitate trade delegations and explore mutually beneficial economic partnerships.<\/p>\n
The meeting also highlighted the importance of continued high-level engagement, parliamentary exchanges and cooperation on regional and international matters. Mr Perwani said sustained engagement between the two Parliamentary Friendship Groups was important and expressed the hope that the proposed counterpart group would provide a basis for regular interaction and practical cooperation.<\/p>\n
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening Pakistan\u2013Turkmenistan relations through parliamentary diplomacy, increased trade and economic cooperation, and closer people-to-people ties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
