{"id":2852,"date":"2025-06-12T19:39:27","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T19:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.peakpoint.pk\/en\/?p=2852"},"modified":"2025-06-12T19:39:27","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T19:39:27","slug":"rcci-strongly-condemns-arrest-powers-for-inland-revenue-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.peakpoint.pk\/en\/2025\/06\/12\/rcci-strongly-condemns-arrest-powers-for-inland-revenue-officers\/","title":{"rendered":"RCCI Strongly Condemns Arrest Powers for Inland Revenue Officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"158\" data-end=\"320\"><strong data-start=\"322\" data-end=\"338\">Rawalpindi<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) held an emergency meeting to voice strong opposition to proposed provisions in the Finance Bill 2025-26 that would empower Inland Revenue officers to arrest company directors, CEOs, CFOs, and other corporate personnel.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"383\" data-end=\"700\">RCCI President Usman Shaukat and Group Leader Sohail Altaf led the discussion, warning that unchecked arrest powers would open the floodgates to <strong data-start=\"528\" data-end=\"577\">harassment, blackmail, and abuse of authority<\/strong>. \u201cThis move will destroy already fragile investor confidence and severely harm Pakistan\u2019s business climate,\u201d said Shaukat.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"702\" data-end=\"854\">Altaf urged the Prime Minister to intervene immediately, cautioning that failure to withdraw the proposal could prompt <strong data-start=\"821\" data-end=\"853\">a nationwide business strike<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"1026\">Also attending the meeting were former RCCI President Najam Rehan, Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, and executive committee members.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1028\" data-end=\"1062\">Objections to Solar Energy Tax<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1307\">The RCCI leadership also condemned the proposed <strong data-start=\"1111\" data-end=\"1144\">18% sales tax on solar energy<\/strong>, calling it a step backwards in the country\u2019s efforts to embrace green energy. \u201cThis budget offers no real incentive for industrial growth or exports,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1309\" data-end=\"1507\">The chamber emphasized that empowering the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to arrest taxpayers would only <strong data-start=\"1414\" data-end=\"1453\">spread fear, halt economic activity<\/strong>, and push investors to relocate their capital abroad.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1509\" data-end=\"1710\">While reaffirming their support for <strong data-start=\"1545\" data-end=\"1567\">tax accountability<\/strong>, RCCI warned that such <strong data-start=\"1591\" data-end=\"1627\">punitive and aggressive measures<\/strong> would worsen uncertainty for businesses already grappling with economic pressures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rawalpindi\u00a0\u2013 The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) held an emergency meeting to voice strong opposition to proposed provisions in the Finance Bill 2025-26 that would empower Inland Revenue officers to arrest company directors, CEOs, CFOs, and other corporate personnel.
