This clarification follows a letter from the Leader of the Opposition, Omar Ayub, to which Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has formally responded.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson from the Secretariat stated that the process is firmly rooted in legal and constitutional frameworks, starting with a necessary consultation between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. The spokesperson emphasized that this mutual consultation is the foundational step toward establishing the parliamentary committee responsible for the appointments.<\/p>\n
Referring to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s letter dated May 16, 2025, the Speaker mentioned that the Prime Minister had initiated the consultation process by formally writing to the Leader of the Opposition. The Speaker further clarified that, in the event of a failure to reach a consensus between the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader, Article 213(2A) of the Constitution mandates the referral of the matter to the Speaker, who will then move forward with the parliamentary committee’s formation.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson added that the Prime Minister would formally write to the Speaker, requesting nominations for the committee from all parliamentary leaders. Once received, the Speaker will issue letters to each leader, inviting them to submit their respective nominations. It was further emphasized that the committee\u2019s composition will reflect the proportional representation of each political party in the National Assembly to ensure fairness and compliance with the Constitution.<\/p>\n
