Islamabad, June 24, 2025<\/strong> \u2014 Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani reaffirmed that the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is not transactional, but deeply rooted in shared faith, common history, and mutual respect. Speaking during a high-level meeting with Major General (Rtd) Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Sanhat Al-Harbi, head of the Saudi Arabia\u2013Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Gilani highlighted the strategic, cultural, and people-centered nature of the bilateral partnership.<\/p>\n

Chairman Gilani referenced his successful visit to Saudi Arabia last year and the reciprocal visit by the Chairman of the Shura Council to Pakistan as pivotal moments in strengthening parliamentary diplomacy. He emphasized the importance of institutionalizing regular dialogue between the Senate of Pakistan and the Shura Council through frequent high-level exchanges and enhanced people-to-people contact.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his meetings with Saudi leadership, Mr. Gilani underscored the warmth and mutual respect that define the bilateral relationship. He expressed appreciation for the Kingdom\u2019s consistent efforts to improve the Hajj and Umrah experience for Pakistani pilgrims and praised the Saudi government for its care of the more than 2.5 million Pakistanis residing in the Kingdom. These expatriates, he said, are vital not only to Saudi Arabia\u2019s development but also to Pakistan\u2019s economy through their remittances.<\/p>\n

Mr. Gilani reiterated Pakistan\u2019s enduring commitment to its brotherly alliance with Saudi Arabia and expressed hope that the Parliamentary Friendship Group would serve as a catalyst for transformative and future-focused cooperation. \u201cWe also look forward to the visit of His Highness the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He noted the historical depth of defense and security collaboration between the two countries and highlighted the role of trade and economic ties in boosting bilateral cooperation. Referring to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Mr. Gilani described it as a streamlined, one-window platform to attract Saudi investment in diverse sectors.<\/p>\n

Calling for the swift implementation of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) signed between the two nations, the Senate Chairman emphasized that Pakistan is committed to deepening fraternal bonds and fostering a resilient partnership.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Chairman Gilani warmly welcomed the visiting Saudi delegation to the Parliament House. During a reception in their honor, the head of the Saudi delegation expressed gratitude for the hospitality and described Pakistan as a key regional player with whom the Kingdom shares strong strategic interests.
