The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and COMSTECH have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing regulatory capacity, facilitating knowledge exchange, and promoting collaboration among Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries. This partnership is poised to advance science-driven regulation and innovation, fostering self-reliance in Pakistan’s healthcare sector.<\/p>\n
At the MoU signing ceremony hosted by DRAP, the delegation from COMSTECH was led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, recipient of the Mustafa (PBUH) Prize. Dr. Obaidullah, CEO of DRAP, along with senior directors of the Authority, welcomed the delegates and presented DRAP’s strategic vision aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s regulatory framework, specifically highlighting priorities in indigenous Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and vaccine manufacturing.<\/p>\n
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Obaidullah underscored the significance of bolstering Pakistan’s regulatory infrastructure and revealed plans to establish a Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory dedicated to vaccine testing. The CEO emphasized the critical role of DRAP as an essential stakeholder in creating a supportive environment for pharmaceutical and biotechnological advancement in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary outlined COMSTECH’s initiatives designed to facilitate greater international collaboration among OIC member countries. He highlighted several key programs, including roadshows intended to showcase the research and development capabilities of local scientific institutions, assistance in training activities, and promoting registration on the OIC Technology & Innovation Portal. Additionally, he discussed joint efforts toward the COMSTECH Scholarship Programme, designed to encourage capacity-building through education and technical excellence.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the MoU emphasizes collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening the regulatory framework necessary for enhancing pharmaceutical trade among OIC nations. COMSTECH has also committed to providing technical assistance to DRAP, supporting Pakistan’s objective of attaining the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Maturity Level-3 (ML-3) certification.<\/p>\n
