In a detailed response, Prof. Muhammad Humayun, President of PIMA Central Punjab, called upon the Chief Minister to hold accountable those departments responsible for the lack of medical essentials. He urged the government to take immediate and effective actions to ensure sufficient provision of medicines and facilities in all teaching hospitals and district healthcare centres across Punjab. Prof. Humayun emphasized that blaming dedicated healthcare workers without thorough investigation was a grave injustice and merely diverted attention away from the actual issues plaguing the health system.<\/p>\n
Prof. Humayun highlighted a critical financial issue in the healthcare sector, noting that hospitals throughout Punjab currently face pending payments totaling approximately PKR 14 billion for medicines. As a direct consequence of this financial backlog, patients are experiencing severe shortages not only of life-saving drugs but also of basic painkillers. He pointed out that the shortage of surgical instruments and essential medical supplies has reached alarming levels and urgently requires governmental attention.<\/p>\n
PIMA demanded that the provincial government acknowledge the gravity of the health system’s crisis and prioritize substantial reform in the public health sector.
