Speaking at a high-level review meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized that the agriculture sector remains a foremost priority for the government, underlining the necessity of value addition, adoption of modern technology, and the facilitation of farmers through streamlined credit schemes.<\/p>\n
Chaired by the prime minister, the meeting received a detailed briefing from the agricultural task force on current sectoral performance, ongoing reforms, and future targets. Prime Minister Sharif instructed participants to present short- and long-term strategies that address the deployment of advanced machinery, provision of quality seeds, geographical crop planning, and simplified loan procedures to aid the agricultural community.<\/p>\n
He also underscored the critical importance of making agricultural research centers more proactive and urged stakeholders to strengthen public-private partnerships to accelerate innovative research and development. The prime minister highlighted the need to engage internationally renowned experts to effectively integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies into Pakistan’s agricultural practices.<\/p>\n
In addition, Prime Minister Sharif identified the development of small and medium-sized agro-industries as significant to enhancing value-added agricultural exports. He called on officials to present concrete plans that support the growth of these enterprises and leverage value addition across agricultural commodities.<\/p>\n
Recognizing the significance of food security, the prime minister stressed facilitating and advising farmers on shifting towards profitable crop cultivation. He reiterated the government’s commitment to making Pakistan self-sufficient in food production through effective guidance and technical support for farmers.<\/p>\n
To ensure inclusivity and effectiveness of the proposed reforms, the prime minister called for active consultations with farmers and other key stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of their input in policy formulation and implementation. Furthermore, he directed officials to enhance coordination and cooperation among provincial governments to achieve uniform agricultural development across the nation.<\/p>\n
Addressing the impacts of climate change on agriculture, the meeting discussed plans to promote the use of climate-resilient seeds and modern farming methods. Prime Minister Sharif specifically highlighted that detailed consultations and extensive planning are necessary before expanding cotton cultivation into new suitable regions, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, considering changing rainfall patterns and climate conditions.<\/p>\n
Further underscoring energy diversification, Prime Minister Sharif instructed relevant authorities to initiate research and planning for incorporating biofuels into Pakistan’s national energy mix.<\/p>\n
The meeting participants received a comprehensive overview of the previous year’s production outcomes for major Rabi and Kharif crops, assessed challenges faced by the farming community, reviewed the progress of government-led reforms, and analyzed climate change effects on the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, along with agricultural sector experts and senior officials, attended the session.
