The initiative was led by <strong data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"773\">H.E. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan \u2013 Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Pakistan<\/strong>, during a high-level meeting with <strong data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"881\">Mr. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, Minister for National Heritage and Culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"884\" data-end=\"1365\">Ambassador Pham emphasized Vietnam\u2019s deep-rooted Buddhist traditions and its commitment to preserving historical sites and artifacts. He proposed formal collaboration with Pakistan in the areas of heritage conservation, museum partnerships, joint exhibitions, and academic exchanges, framing it as a gateway to deeper people-to-people ties. \u201cA journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,\u201d he said, highlighting this as a pivotal starting point for long-term cooperation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1367\" data-end=\"1974\">One of the key proposals was the signing of a <strong data-start=\"1413\" data-end=\"1450\">Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)<\/strong> between the <strong data-start=\"1463\" data-end=\"1480\">Taxila Museum<\/strong> and major Vietnamese institutions such as the <strong data-start=\"1527\" data-end=\"1565\">Vietnam National Museum of History<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"1574\" data-end=\"1606\">Museum of Vietnamese History<\/strong> in Ho Chi Minh City. The envisioned MoU would enable collaborative exhibitions, including a special feature titled <strong data-start=\"1722\" data-end=\"1761\">\u201cBuddhist Art Along the Silk Road,\u201d<\/strong> showcasing masterpieces from Taxila alongside Vietnamese Buddhist artifacts. This would spotlight the cultural dialogues between South and Southeast Asia, offering international audiences a rare comparative view.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1976\" data-end=\"2346\">The Ambassador also proposed regular exchanges of museum curators, conservators, and archaeologists, alongside joint research on Buddhist iconography and the spiritual links between Gandhara\u2014the ancient Buddhist heartland of modern-day Pakistan\u2014and ancient Vietnam. Educational programs and co-publication of research were also discussed as part of a long-term strategy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2348\" data-end=\"2756\">Another pillar of the partnership would be <strong data-start=\"2391\" data-end=\"2421\">specialized heritage tours<\/strong>, connecting Pakistan\u2019s UNESCO World Heritage sites in Taxila and Takht-i-Bahi with Vietnam\u2019s renowned Buddhist landmarks, aimed at attracting global pilgrims and cultural tourists. These tours, coupled with digital promotion, training in heritage management, and community involvement, could yield significant socio-economic benefits.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2758\" data-end=\"3073\">Ambassador Pham praised Pakistan\u2019s Gandharan legacy, particularly the Taxila Museum\u2019s world-class collection, and stated, \u201cIf you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.\u201d He urged swift action to formalize cultural partnerships and proposed early signing of the MoU to unlock mutual benefits.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3075\" data-end=\"3481\">In response, <strong data-start=\"3088\" data-end=\"3107\">Minister Khichi<\/strong> warmly welcomed Vietnam\u2019s proposals and assured Pakistan\u2019s commitment to deepening cultural cooperation. He referenced Pakistan\u2019s existing cultural agreements with over 80 countries and affirmed, \u201cWe will move forward and let us sign MoUs.\u201d He expressed admiration for Vietnam\u2019s cultural richness and outlined Pakistan\u2019s interest in hosting joint exhibitions and festivals.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3483\" data-end=\"3742\"><strong data-start=\"3483\" data-end=\"3561\">Mr. Asad Rehman Gillani, Secretary, National Heritage and Culture Division<\/strong>, elaborated on Pakistan\u2019s historical and cultural depth\u2014from Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa to Gandhara\u2014stressing the natural synergy between the two nations for civilizational exchange.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3744\" data-end=\"4085\">Tourism emerged as a key component of the dialogue. <strong data-start=\"3796\" data-end=\"3815\">Minister Khichi<\/strong> invited Vietnamese mountaineers to explore Pakistan\u2019s famed adventure tourism destinations, including K2 and the Karakoram range. Ambassador Pham responded positively, acknowledging the international appeal of Pakistan\u2019s natural beauty and the resilience of its people.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4087\" data-end=\"4407\">To streamline cooperation, both sides agreed to appoint a <strong data-start=\"4145\" data-end=\"4163\">\u201cFocal Person\u201d<\/strong> for coordination and to organize follow-up meetings. One of the most impactful ideas discussed was the initiation of <strong data-start=\"4281\" data-end=\"4329\">direct flights between Vietnam and Islamabad<\/strong>, a step both sides supported to promote tourism, trade, and cultural contact.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4409\" data-end=\"4749\">Minister Khichi also extended an invitation to the Vietnamese Embassy to participate in <strong data-start=\"4497\" data-end=\"4510\">Lok Virsa<\/strong>, Pakistan\u2019s premier cultural festival, encouraging them and other missions to showcase their heritage, crafts, and cuisine.
