The event, aimed at knowledge exchange and collaboration, brought together leading officials, agricultural experts, researchers, and students in Islamabad to share Ethiopia\u2019s successful strategies for building a sustainable food system through green economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>The Green Legacy Forum was jointly hosted by the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad and Pakistan\u2019s Ministry of National Food Security and Research at the National Agriculture Research Center. Ethiopia\u2019s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, presided over the session, while Amir Mohyuddin, Federal Secretary for National Food Security and Research, attended as chief guest.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the participants, Ambassador Dr. Jemal highlighted the shared challenges Ethiopia and Pakistan face as agro-based economies vulnerable to the effects of climate change. He detailed Ethiopia\u2019s transformational journey towards food self-sufficiency under Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, referencing the flagship Green Legacy and Yelemat Tirufat (\u201cBounty of Basket\u201d) initiatives. Under these programs, Ethiopia has planted more than 40.5 billion seedlings\u2014including fruits, vegetables, animal fodder, and coffee\u2014over the past six years, raising its forest cover from 17% to 23%. The Bounty of Basket initiative also led to marked improvements in agricultural and livestock productivity.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Dr. Jemal expressed Ethiopia\u2019s readiness to deepen cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of food security and environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Secretary Amir Mohyuddin proposed aligning Ethiopia\u2019s Green Legacy Initiative with Pakistan\u2019s own Green Pakistan program. He suggested that collaboration in sharing best practices and joint research would advance food security objectives for both countries. Praising Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed\u2019s Green Legacy Initiative as a beacon of green development in Africa, he recognized the importance of large-scale mobilization for afforestation, participatory forest management, land and water conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices\u2014elements he is keen to replicate in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Muhammad Azam Khan, Director General of the National Agriculture Research Center, emphasized the critical need for international partnerships to tackle global challenges such as climate change, which contribute to floods, food insecurity, famine, hunger, and poverty.<\/p>\n<p>Concluding the forum, the Ethiopian Ambassador and the Federal Secretary inaugurated the Green Legacy Park at the National Agriculture Research Center, planting fruit tree seedlings as a symbol of the burgeoning partnership and shared commitment to sustainable development between Ethiopia and Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>**Ethiopia and Pakistan Launch Joint Effort to Boost Food Security** The governments of Ethiopia and Pakistan have joined forces to enhance food security by holding their first-ever Green Legacy Forum.
