The National Highway & Motorway Police have launched a major operation to remove illegal encroachments along the Sahiwal Bypass, taking decisive steps to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow on the national highway. The joint initiative, carried out in close coordination with the District Council and National Highway Authority, comes in response to long-standing public complaints about congestion and road safety hazards caused by unauthorized structures.<\/p>\n
The operation was undertaken on the directives of Deputy Inspector General Syed Ali Fareed and Sector Commander SSP Atif Shehzad Gujar. Supervised by DSP Rab Nawaz Bhatti of Beat 15 Sahiwal, authorities focused on workshop owners along the eastern side of the bypass, many of whom had extended their businesses beyond legal boundaries. Despite being served fifteen-day advance notices to remove illegal structures, numerous workshops persisted in repairing vehicles in front of their premises, occupying multiple parking spaces on the highway and placing sheds, platforms, and heavy machinery on the road\u2019s hard shoulder.<\/p>\n
During the joint action, five workshops were sealed by the District Council team, and formal police reports were registered against two workshop owners and several drivers caught repairing vehicles on the roadside. In addition, officials confiscated items illegally placed on the highway and demolished all unauthorized structures, including sheds and platforms that encroached upon public roadway.<\/p>\n
The decisive enforcement move has been met with widespread approval from motorists and local residents, who had struggled with obstacles and congestion for an extended period.
