**Government Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Human Rights Protections**<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Human Rights has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing protections for vulnerable groups across Pakistan, following the eighth meeting of the National Task Force on Human Rights. Chaired by Federal Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, and co-chaired by Senator Dr. Afnan Ullah Khan and Secretary Abdul Khalique Shaikh, the gathering brought together representatives from key federal and provincial departments, including Law, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Women Development, and Police.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the minister underscored the urgent need to activate District Human Rights Committees in every province and called for the sharing of best practices to better protect women, children, and minorities in line with constitutional guarantees. The review also covered progress on the National Action Plan for Human Rights, which was initially approved in 2016 and revised in 2020. <\/p>\n
In pursuit of further progress, the Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights highlighted the necessity of expediting previous decisions, such as strengthening Treaty Implementation Cells in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and reactivating provincial task forces on human rights. <\/p>\n
Provincial representatives were urged to accelerate the legislative process against child marriage and to complete the appointments to the Provincial Commissions on the Status of Women within 30 days. Additionally, the chair directed the wide dissemination of the Federal Shariat Court\u2019s 2023 judgment on marriage age limits to ensure its effective implementation nationwide.<\/p>\n
To further boost Pakistan\u2019s performance in international gender equality rankings, a special committee comprising federal and provincial secretaries was established. This committee will be tasked with formulating recommendations aimed at improving the country\u2019s standing in the Gender Parity Report.<\/p>\n
