The Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD) at the International Islamic University Islamabad recently organized a national workshop aimed at empowering youth with skills in dialogue and peacebuilding. The event gathered scholars, legal experts, policy specialists, and civil society leaders to help young people promote peace, tolerance, and constructive engagement in Pakistan\u2019s diverse society.<\/p>\n
The workshop began with a welcome from Nasir Farid, Additional Director at IRD, who highlighted the institute\u2019s ongoing efforts to unite different societal groups through academic and civic initiatives. He emphasized IRD\u2019s dedication to fostering dialogue and research as tools for youth development.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Kashif Irshad, Additional Director General KP-CVE and Culture Specialist at the National Heritage and Culture Division, delivered the keynote address. He emphasized the influential role young people play as agents of peace while promoting social harmony and cultural diversity. Justice Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwar of the Federal Shariat Court enriched the discussion by urging youth to cultivate mutual respect across ideological and socio-political differences, and to strive for harmony and ethical leadership.<\/p>\n
A session on sustainable development and inclusive communication was led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Ahmad, Chief Executive of the Global Strategic Institute for Sustainable Development. He highlighted how effective dialogue is essential for lasting peace and called for collaboration across generations and sectors of society.<\/p>\n
Following lunch, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, a former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and legal expert, led a workshop on conflict resolution and mediation. Participants received practical tools for navigating disagreements and fostering reconciliation, essential skills for constructive community engagement.<\/p>\n
Saith Usama Chitrali, Managing Director of SEERAHT International, concluded the thematic sessions with a presentation on youth-led peace advocacy. He encouraged participants to launch civic initiatives and grassroots dialogue campaigns, inspiring proactive community involvement.<\/p>\n
The workshop also welcomed Sahabzada Qamar-ul-Haq, Mohtamim of Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, who praised IRD\u2019s role in promoting interfaith harmony and engaged youth participation. He congratulated the institute on the relevance of the workshop and encouraged participants to further spread the values of peace and mutual respect in their communities.<\/p>\n
The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the enthusiastic participation of university and Madrassa students, young professionals, academics, and civil society members.
