Thousands of sanitation workers and supervisors in Rawalpindi participated in a protest rally organized by the Municipal Labour Union, demanding overdue salaries and the regularization of their jobs. The rally, which began at the Municipal Corporation and ended at the Press Club, was led by Union President Raja Haroon and General Secretary Padre Shahid Raza, along with other prominent union officials.<\/p>\n
During the rally, union leaders voiced their frustrations over delayed payments, highlighting that despite working tirelessly during religious holidays to keep the city clean, many municipal employees have still not received their salary allowances for the past month. The union criticized the city administration, singling out the Deputy Commissioner, who also serves as the Chairman of the Waste Management Company, for repeatedly ignoring workers\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n
Raja Haroon, in his address to the protesters, stated that while authorities are able to address other company matters promptly, they continuously postpone the regularization of around 900 employees, allegedly blaming the absence of a properly constituted board of the Waste Management Company. He also pointed out that despite available funds, essential government machinery remains unrepaired, affecting the workers\u2019 ability to perform their duties.<\/p>\n
The union presented a 15-day ultimatum to the administration, demanding that the employment status of the 900 workers be regularized.
