Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal announced a comprehensive response plan, ensuring both immediate aid and ongoing coordination to address the urgent needs of those impacted by the recent floods.

Speaking at a press briefing, Kamal emphasized that the ministry initiated relief operations proactively, without waiting for formal requests from provincial governments. All medical supplies requested by affected regions, including medicines and equipment, were provided in full. The minister stressed that 100 percent of the required medicines were delivered, and medical teams were dispatched rapidly to areas in need.

For instance, following a request from Shangla district, an 18-member medical team—comprising doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic Hospital—was sent immediately to deliver on-site healthcare services to displaced families. Similar teams were deployed to Buner and other affected districts wherever specialized care, such as pediatrics, orthopedics, and gynecology, was required.

Preventive measures were also a priority. Large quantities of mosquito nets were distributed to combat the spread of vector-borne diseases, which often increase following floods. The relief packages included 16,000 antibiotics, 14,000 antipyretics (fever reducers), and 10,000 painkillers. In addition, over 250,000 pentavalent vaccines and 150,000 measles-rubella vaccines were supplied to guard against outbreaks of infectious diseases among children. More than 6,000 oral rehydration salts and related medicines were provided for cases of waterborne illnesses.

To address regional needs, the ministry delivered 3,410 kilograms of medicines to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 350 kilograms to Gilgit-Baltistan, ensuring local requirements were met based on real-time assessments. In Gilgit-Baltistan specifically, extra stocks were sent, including 1,400 antibiotics, 40,000 doses of pain relief medication, and 1,000 anti-allergy treatments.

Kamal stressed that all federal health institutions have been put on high alert, operating under a strict monitoring regime. A Command and Control Room has been established at the National Institute of Health (NIH) to monitor the evolving situation around the clock and coordinate real-time data collection from affected districts. Provincial and federal health officials communicate constantly to ensure prompt responses to emerging medical needs, relying on ground teams and online networks for information sharing and resource mobilization.

The health minister clarified that federal resources were sufficient for the current needs, and while there is close coordination with international partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO), no additional aid had been requested as of now. Kamal reaffirmed that all relief activities are being carried out under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and with full collaboration between federal, provincial, and local authorities.

He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting citizens during this crisis and extended prayers for the country’s speedy recovery, urging continued vigilance and solidarity as the nation navigates these challenging times.

The Ministry of National Health Services has intensified its medical relief efforts in Pakistan’s flood-affected areas, working closely with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial authorities to provide timely healthcare support and supplies.
