Pakistan\u2019s ICT Exports Hit US$ 354 Million, Driving Record Trade Surplus<\/p>\n
Pakistan\u2019s information and communication technology (ICT) sector has delivered impressive export growth, propelling the country\u2019s strongest-ever trade surplus in services even as other segments lag behind. ICT export remittances reached US$ 354 million in July, representing a robust 23.8 percent increase from the same period last year and a 4.4 percent increase from the previous month.<\/p>\n
This surge has established ICT as the most dominant sector within Pakistan\u2019s service exports, playing a vital role in supporting the national economy. The industry\u2019s trade surplus climbed to US$ 317 million, marking a year-on-year gain of 25.8 percent and outpacing all other service sectors. The strong performance reflects growing international demand for the country\u2019s digital offerings, including software development, IT-enabled services, and digital outsourcing.<\/p>\n
With ICT now accounting for 47.5 percent of Pakistan\u2019s total services exports, the sector remains the backbone of the country\u2019s foreign exchange earnings from services. In comparison, Other Business Services, the next largest contributor, brought in US$ 151 million during the same period\u2014a figure significantly lower than ICT\u2019s contribution.<\/p>\n
Despite the overall services sector recording a trade deficit of US$ 126 million, the ICT sector was able to offset much of this shortfall. Analysts suggest that without the robust performance of ICT exports, the deficit would have been significantly higher, putting further strain on the national economy.<\/p>\n
The latest data cements the ICT sector\u2019s position as the fastest-growing and most resilient part of Pakistan\u2019s services industry.
