Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal chaired a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Health to review the progress of ongoing projects and discuss the challenges facing Pakistan\u2019s healthcare sector. Senior ministry officials, including the Federal Secretary for Health, Additional Secretary for Health, and Director General of Health, attended the session.<\/p>\n
Minister Kamal emphasized that decisions made within the Ministry have a direct impact on people\u2019s lives, highlighting the urgent need to prioritize and complete ongoing health projects efficiently. He pointed out that with Pakistan being the fifth most populous country in the world, there is a critical need to implement policies aimed at reducing the population growth rate and to protect citizens from preventable diseases.<\/p>\n
The Health Minister drew attention to the overcrowding in public hospitals, likening the scene to the aftermath of a political rally, and stressed that prevention is better than cure. He stated that 68 percent of diseases in Pakistan are linked to contaminated water, underscoring the importance of preventive measures. Strengthening routine immunization, especially to protect children from twelve major diseases, was identified as a key government focus.<\/p>\n
Minister Kamal also discussed efforts to eradicate polio, noting that Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries where the disease remains. He called for further strengthening of vaccination systems to protect children from this life-threatening illness.<\/p>\n
The minister reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to improving the network of basic health centers, ensuring an effective referral system at the primary level, and expanding telemedicine projects to provide both physicians and medicines directly to communities. To address public complaints, he also pointed to the implementation of a Health Complaint Management System.<\/p>\n
