Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has praised the digitization of Pakistan\u2019s medical device registration and licensing system, describing it as a major step towards efficiency, transparency, and international compliance. During a visit to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), he reviewed the fully digitalized online system that allows for streamlined applications and faster processing of licenses for medical devices.<\/p>\n
DRAP officials informed the minister that since the launch of the digital system, a total of 940 applications have been received in various categories, with 188 licenses already approved and digitally issued to companies. The remaining applications are being processed and are expected to be completed within the established timeframes. Officials highlighted ongoing improvements to the system, including enhanced monitoring and management tools on the digital dashboard.<\/p>\n
Minister Kamal emphasized that the new system has eased business operations, encouraging both domestic and foreign investment while supporting the growth of Pakistan\u2019s medical devices industry. He noted that this shift brings the national regulatory environment closer to international standards, which has improved the availability and quality of medical devices throughout the country and strengthened global confidence in Pakistan\u2019s regulatory processes.<\/p>\n
Prior to the introduction of this digital platform, obtaining a license for medical devices could take up to 24 months, posing significant obstacles for businesses. Now, with the online system, licenses are typically issued within 20 days.
