Minister of State for Health, Mukhtar Bharath, has called for urgent and coordinated action to address the rise in dengue cases in Islamabad, following a visit to the District Health Office to review current containment efforts and preventive measures.<\/p>\n
Health authorities reported that Islamabad has recorded 122 dengue cases so far, with the majority\u2014107 cases\u2014emerging from rural areas and 15 from urban neighborhoods. The surge includes 27 new cases identified within the past 24 hours. Officials also noted a concerning pattern, as 22 percent of all reported cases involved patients who had recently traveled to the popular hill station of Murree.<\/p>\n
Minister Bharath cited climate change and recent heavy monsoon rains as major factors contributing to the increase in mosquito breeding and, subsequently, dengue outbreaks in Pakistan and globally. He stressed the necessity for stronger surveillance, improved outbreak response, and enhanced public awareness to minimize the risk of further spread.<\/p>\n
To bolster diagnostic capabilities, the Minister instructed the Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority to ensure that all private hospitals and laboratories have ELISA tests for dengue readily available. He also emphasized the need for timely sharing of patient data to support prompt and coordinated response activities.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the critical role of community participation, Minister Bharath urged citizens to strictly adhere to preventive measures, including removing stagnant water from their surroundings to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. He warned that strict action would be taken against households found with dengue larvae on their premises.<\/p>\n
