Health workers in Islamabad have announced a complete shutdown of all government hospital outpatient departments (OPDs), dispensaries, and vaccination services in protest against the conduct of the Federal Health Minister. The Health Alliance, which represents medical staff across major government health institutions, is demanding the minister’s immediate resignation and calling on the Prime Minister to appoint a replacement with a background in medicine who understands the needs of healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n
The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the Health Alliance\u2019s Core Committee, attended by representatives from PIMS, Polyclinic, NIRM, NIH, FGSH, CDA, TB hospitals, and the District Health Officer (DHO) office. The protest includes a boycott of the polio campaign and all other vaccination initiatives. <\/p>\n
Health Alliance leaders expressed strong dissatisfaction with what they describe as the minister’s irresponsible and inappropriate behavior. They criticized successive governments for prioritizing the welfare of parliamentarians and privileged groups, while frontline health workers, who play a crucial role during national emergencies, continue to be overlooked. Representatives highlighted a decade of neglect, noting that despite rising inflation and discriminatory policies from the Ministry of Finance, healthcare staff have seen little improvement in their working conditions or financial support.<\/p>\n
The Alliance further warned that any retaliatory actions against protesting employees would result in demands for the transfer of those responsible. Their leadership pledged full support to their members throughout the demonstrations.<\/p>\n
The strike will continue until the government issues a notification restoring the health allowance for employees.
