The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) held a special meeting to discuss the development of the Rawalpindi Ring Road Economic Zones, a major project expected to ease traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, enhance the quality of life for residents, and drive economic growth in the region.<\/p>\n
Director General of the RDA, Kinza Murtaza, chaired the meeting and highlighted the wide-ranging benefits of the Ring Road initiative. She explained that the project aims to provide a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment to the twin cities by reducing traffic issues and promoting sustainable development. Key features of the project include the establishment of logistics and education centers, a health city, a dry port, business hubs, industrial zones, transport terminals, wholesale markets, amusement parks, and residential communities along both sides of the Ring Road. According to Kinza Murtaza, these developments will spur economic activity, create new jobs, and improve public amenities, with construction expected to be completed in the near future.<\/p>\n
Senior Advisor to OIC COMSTECH, Professor Dr. Shahid Mahmud, attended the meeting and praised the initiative as an overdue development for both Rawalpindi and Islamabad. He emphasized the importance of integrating advanced urban planning practices, such as the adoption of a Green Building Code and city regeneration strategies, to ensure sustainable growth and eliminate urban encroachment. Dr. Mahmud underscored the role of Special Economic Zones in modernizing the area and called for greater involvement from the private sector. He stressed that facilitating private investment and exports is crucial for resolving Pakistan\u2019s economic challenges, assuring that investors would receive comprehensive support through the project.<\/p>\n
Former Ambassador Naghmana Hashmi also spoke at the event, noting that the primary goal of the Ring Road project is to enhance economic connectivity and the efficiency of road transport between the twin cities.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by several RDA officials, including the Additional DG, Chief Planner, Director of MP&TE, Director of Building Control, Director of Engineering, and other senior officers.
