Information Commissioner Ijaz Hassan Awan introduced participants to the key stipulations of the Act, emphasizing that public bodies have a legal obligation to proactively share information, maintain accurate records, and respond promptly to citizens\u2019 requests. He described the Right to Information (RTI) as an essential democratic instrument for building public trust and ensuring responsible governance across all levels of the state.<\/p>\n
Representing the National Lobbying Delegation, Advocate Basharat Masih highlighted the transformative role of RTI laws in empowering citizens and deepening democratic participation. He particularly stressed the potential of RTI to address minority concerns, such as securing proper implementation of the 2% education quota and 5% employment quota set aside for minority communities, thereby fostering equal inclusion in national progress.<\/p>\n
Chief Information Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui reiterated that access to public information is a constitutional right enshrined in Article 19-A. He underscored the ongoing efforts of the Pakistan Information Commission to nurture a culture of transparency, accountability, and good governance, and commended the NLD for its work in advocating for an informed and inclusive society.<\/p>\n
