Pakistan Iran Leaders Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani and President of Iran Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian held their first official meeting in Islamabad, marking an important step towards strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries. The Iranian President was on an official visit to Pakistan, accompanied by high-level officials from both nations.

The meeting brought together key Pakistani leaders including Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, and Member of the National Assembly Naveed Qamar. Discussions took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations.

Chairman Senate Gillani expressed confidence that the Iranian President’s visit would further reinforce cooperation between Pakistan and Iran. He acknowledged Iran’s leadership for its firm stance against Israeli actions, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace, stability, and development in the region. He emphasized that conflicts cannot be resolved through warfare but rather through diplomacy and negotiation.

Gillani highlighted Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to self-defense on the international stage and noted that both houses of Pakistan’s parliament had passed resolutions condemning Israeli aggression. He reiterated Pakistan’s full support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and pledged to deepen parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

He underscored the significance of the Pakistan-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group in promoting mutual understanding, and called for increased engagement in education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Gillani also expressed gratitude to the Iranian President for hosting Pakistani pilgrims in Iran, describing Iran as a trustworthy and sincere partner.

President Pezeshkian, in response, appreciated Pakistan’s support and reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to enhance collaboration in trade, economic, and investment sectors. He emphasized the importance of working together for peace and prosperity in the region and noted that parliamentary institutions play a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations.

Both leaders concluded that dialogue, cooperation, fraternity, and lasting peace form the foundation of the Iran-Pakistan partnership.
