HEC Governance Review Team Visits FJWU for Institutional Assessment

A team from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has conducted an institutional governance review at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) as part of the Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) Project. Supported by the World Bank, this initiative aims to strengthen governance, autonomy, accountability, and management efficiency across selected higher education institutions in the country.
Led by Professor Dr. Syed Afaq Haider from IM Sciences Peshawar and governance consultant Mr. Furqan Ali, the HEC review team spent two days at FJWU. Their assessment was designed to evaluate the university’s existing governance structures, identify key strengths and areas in need of improvement, and provide targeted recommendations in areas such as strategic planning, academic governance, financial management, and human resource administration.
During the visit, the team held meetings with key university officials, including the Registrar, Additional Treasurer, Controller of Examinations, Director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, human resource and establishment staff, and representatives of the Planning and Development Office. The second day included interactions with deans, heads of departments, faculty members, hostel staff, student affairs personnel, career counseling and admissions staff, members of the Quality Enhancement Cell, and student representatives.
The visit, organized by the university’s Quality Enhancement Cell and overseen by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Bushra Mirza and Director QEC Professor Dr. Bushra Yasmin, was seen as an important step toward fortifying institutional governance at FJWU. The assessment underscores the university’s dedication to advancing national standards and participating in broader higher education reforms spearheaded by HEC through the HEDP project.
