Karachi: The UBL National Innovation Hackathon 2026 has concluded at the National Incubation Center (NIC) Karachi, marking the end of a three-day innovation challenge aimed at promoting technology-led ideas for Pakistan’s financial sector.
The event brought together 25 finalist teams, chosen from 1,281 applicants from across the country. It was organised by NIC Karachi, an Ignite-funded initiative under the Ministry of IT & Telecom, in collaboration with United Bank Limited (UBL).
The hackathon centred on solutions for banking, payments and financial services, with participants competing in five key areas: Artificial Intelligence in Banking, Blockchain & Digital Trust, UX/UI for Inclusive Financial Services, Open Banking APIs, and Emerging FinTech Solutions.
During the three-day challenge, teams worked through a structured innovation process. They carried out user research, built prototypes, validated business models and developed solutions designed to address practical challenges faced by the industry.
The finalist teams presented functional prototypes along with technical documentation, source code repositories, live or cloud-based deployments, demo videos and investor-ready pitch decks. Industry experts also provided mentorship and technical guidance throughout the event, helping participants improve their concepts and strengthen their solutions.
The hackathon concluded with participation certificates being distributed among all finalist teams in recognition of their innovation, teamwork and commitment during the competition.
The initiative underlines the ongoing collaboration between UBL and NIC Karachi to promote innovation, reinforce Pakistan’s FinTech ecosystem and encourage market-ready digital solutions for the country’s financial services sector.
