Advancing Maritime Cooperation Between Pakistan and Rwanda

Ambassador Fatou Harerimana, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to Pakistan, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, to explore deeper maritime cooperation. Discussions centered on the establishment of direct shipping line connectivity to facilitate trade, reduce logistics costs and shorten transit times, a step that would be especially beneficial for landlocked Rwanda.

Both delegations agreed to strengthen linkages between Pakistan’s maritime sector and East African trade routes, seeking practical measures to improve cargo flows and streamline logistics chains. The proposed shipping connections aim to lower costs for exporters and importers while enhancing the role of Pakistani ports as gateways to East Africa.

Officials emphasized that moving from talks to operational steps will be crucial, with joint work expected on route planning, regulatory coordination and commercial arrangements for direct services. The focus on maritime cooperation reflects a shared interest in creating more efficient trade corridors between Pakistan and African markets.

This engagement marks an important milestone in expanding bilateral ties with African nations and highlights opportunities for Pakistan to deepen trade links with East Africa through targeted shipping and logistics initiatives.
