PBM Flood Relief Expands After Committee Backing

The Director General of Pakistan Bait‑ul‑Mal, Dr. Zeeshan Danish, presented the organisation’s work before the National Assembly Standing Committee chaired by Meer Ghulam Ali Talpur, detailing PBM flood relief efforts across flood‑affected regions. He emphasised how the institution has stepped in despite a limited mandate and constrained resources to provide rapid assistance to vulnerable communities.

The committee noted that PBM has distributed about 80,000 meal packs and deployed 15 large vehicles to support relief operations, conducted rescue missions for both people and animals, and delivered essential ration bags, medicine boxes and clothing to affected families. Officials also outlined recent plans to distribute 200,000 kilograms of dates and significant quantities of animal feed to areas hardest hit by the floods.

Members commended PBM’s role in healthcare and education support, citing targeted help for cancer patients and assistance for university students. The Standing Committee agreed to increase funding for PBM flood relief and requested the Managing Director to submit a detailed summary to guide the expanded support. Senator Capt. Shaheen Khalid Butt, Managing Director of PBM, expressed gratitude to the committee and pledged to maintain a fair and transparent system to ensure maximum assistance reaches the needy.

The committee endorsement underscores PBM’s sustained commitment and the team’s sincere efforts under the MD’s leadership, highlighting the potential for a greater humanitarian impact with the approved increase in resources for PBM flood relief.
