Advancing Paediatric Surgery Training in Karachi
The University of Child Health Sciences, Children’s Hospital, held its 19th Intensive Clinical Course in collaboration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, bringing together leading specialists in Paediatric Surgery and allied disciplines. The inaugural ceremony was honoured by the presence of Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal as chief guest, underscoring the course’s role in strengthening paediatric surgical care.
The ceremony opened with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address from Prof. Dr. Nabila Talat, Dean of the Faculty of Surgery & Allied Surgical Specialities. Her remarks highlighted the faculty’s commitment to continuous professional development for surgeons and allied clinicians involved in child health.
Prof. Masood Sadiq, Vice Chancellor of the University of Child Health Sciences, thanked the chief guest for gracing the occasion and emphasised the importance of the Intensive Clinical Course in enhancing the practical skills and clinical judgement of doctors working in paediatric settings. He framed the training as essential to delivering quality patient care across paediatric services in Pakistan.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal praised the efforts of the university leadership for organising regular training initiatives and reiterated the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to postgraduate medical education. He also updated participants on CPSP’s national and international achievements since its establishment in 1962 and stressed the value of maintaining high standards in Paediatric Surgery training to match global benchmarks.
The inaugural proceedings concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to the chief guest and a group photograph of faculty, participants and guests. The gathering underlined a shared focus on advancing Paediatric Surgery education and improving clinical outcomes for children across the region.
