Tackling 3D Diabetes at Lahore Symposium
A symposium held at Saleem Memorial Hospital in Lahore to mark World Diabetes Day brought together clinicians and medical leaders to focus on improving diabetes care through the 3D Diabetes approach. The event, organised jointly by Saleem Memorial Hospital and the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, centred on the concluding session titled 3D Diabetes (Detect, Defend and Defeat Diabetes), emphasising early detection and comprehensive defence strategies for patients across age groups.
The concluding session featured Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, as the chief guest. Prof Gondal highlighted the vital role of CPSP in producing specialist physicians and underscored the importance of expanding training in both adult and pediatric endocrinology to meet Pakistan’s growing needs for diabetes care.
Speakers included Prof Dr Javed Akram, former Punjab Health Minister, Prof Aftab Mohsin, Prof Tariq Waseem and Dr Somia Iqtadar, who discussed recent advances and practical updates in diabetes management. Presenters examined ways to strengthen detection protocols, enhance patient defence against complications and implement strategies to defeat the disease at clinical and community levels.
Organisers said the symposium aimed to translate the 3D Diabetes focus into actionable steps for local hospitals and practitioners, reinforcing the need for specialist training, multidisciplinary collaboration and ongoing clinical updates. The discussion reflected a growing commitment within Lahore’s medical community to address diabetes with targeted clinical expertise and coordinated public health measures.
