Abbottabad DC Opens COMSATS Final Year Project Contest
ABBOTTABAD: Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Captain (retd) Sarmad Saleem visited COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, Dhamtour, on July 22, 2026, where the Final Year Project Competition 2026 and a certificate distribution ceremony were held.
The deputy commissioner was the chief guest at the ceremony. On his arrival, he was received by Campus Director Professor Dr Zakir Hussain, Head of the Department of Computer Science Professor Dr Ziaur Rehman and Campus Coordinator Professor Dr Imran Ali Khan.
The programme began at C Block with the distribution of certificates among students and volunteers. They were recognised for their contribution to the digital cataloguing of books at Maulana Muhammad Ishaq Public Library Abbottabad, as well as for their work in developing and implementing district-level digital information systems.
Certificates were also awarded to students of the Computer Science Department for developing the “Pehchan App” for the district administration and a special website for the district police. The Pehchan App has more than 2,000 users and is playing an effective role in the delivery of various public services.
During the ceremony, certificates were also distributed among 28 students who won the ExcITe Cup held at Capital University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, on June 13, 2026.
A special appreciation certificate was presented to Computer Science student Hira Khurshid for securing second position in the Computing Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–26 Global Finals held in Shenzhen, China.
Later, the chief guest inaugurated the Final Year Project Exhibition and Competition 2026 and visited different stalls. Around 30 modern and innovative projects prepared by Computer Science students were displayed. The students briefed the participants about the practical value of their work in digital governance, public service delivery, artificial intelligence, software development and emerging technologies. Experts from the industrial sector evaluated the projects.
As part of the same activities, semester projects and an On-Spot Programming Competition were also organised under TechFusion 2026, in which around 60 students took part.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Sarmad Saleem appreciated the role of COMSATS University Abbottabad Campus in public service, community development and the promotion of modern technology. He praised the creativity and technical skills of the students and urged them to continue contributing to social development and technological advancement. He also assured the campus director and the university of all possible cooperation in future.
