Accelerating Digital Skills with COMSTECH Huawei ICT Academy

The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation and Huawei Technologies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding and inaugurated the joint COMSTECH-Huawei ICT Academy at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad, a move aimed at strengthening digital capacity across 57 OIC member and five observer states.

The newly opened ICT Academy features advanced digital learning infrastructure to support virtual instruction, hands-on ICT training and real-time collaboration, enabling students and professionals across the OIC region to access blended learning and Huawei’s global training ecosystem.

Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and chief guest at the ceremony, described the initiative as a timely investment in Pakistan’s ICT ecosystem that will also support broader capacity-building efforts across OIC member states.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, said the MoU and the ICT Academy represent a transformative step toward digital self-reliance for member countries, adding that the programme will enable youth to acquire cutting-edge skills and contribute to innovation-led socio-economic development.

Ethan Sun, CEO Huawei Pakistan, reiterated Huawei’s commitment to empowering youth with industry-relevant digital skills and noted that the company’s long-running Seeds for the Future programme and similar initiatives will feed into the academy’s training activities.

The COMSTECH-Huawei ICT Academy will deliver specialised certification programmes in 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity, aimed at bridging the talent gap and equipping young professionals with industry-ready skills that are in demand locally and regionally.

The inauguration concluded with a tour of the facility and live demonstrations of Huawei’s digital learning technologies, attended by ambassadors and senior diplomats from Somalia, Malaysia, Morocco, Mauritius, Azerbaijan, Algeria and Brunei Darussalam, along with representatives of various international and national organisations.
