India Charge into U18 Asia Cup Final

India advanced to the final of the U18 Asia Cup after a dramatic 5-3 semi-final victory over Pakistan in Kakamigahara, Japan. The Asian Hockey Federation event, held from May 29 to June 6, produced one of the tournament’s most thrilling encounters.

India struck first when Tani Ashish converted a penalty stroke to open the scoring. Pakistan responded through Adeel to level the game before the break. Early in the second half Shah Rukh restored India’s lead in the 35th minute, but Muhammad Farhan equalised two minutes later. Pakistan then moved ahead in the 42nd minute when Uzair Ahmed found the net to make it 3-2.

India produced a stunning turnaround as Tani Ashish scored three consecutive goals to complete a four-goal haul and secure a 5-3 win. His performance proved decisive in sending India through to the U18 Asia Cup final.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation President praised the young national side for their determination, skill and fighting spirit despite the semi-final defeat. He noted that the squad had been assembled only weeks before the tournament and that for many players this was their first major international assignment, making their progress particularly encouraging.

The federation expressed pride after a campaign that included a 5-2 quarter-final win and emphasised that the experience gained will be vital for player development. Sponsors Alaska Battery and PTCL were acknowledged for their support of the Pakistan U-18 team throughout the event.

Pakistan’s youngsters left a positive impression on fans and officials, and the match underscored the competitive intensity of the U18 Asia Cup and the promising pool of talent in Pakistan hockey as the country looks to build for the future.
