RAWALPINDI: Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry has said that the Kashmiri people remain steadfast in their struggle for the right to self-determination, despite India’s illegal actions and continuing repression in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a ceremony at Waqar-un-Nisa College, Rawalpindi, held in connection with Youm-e-Istehsaal Kashmir, Barrister Danyal said India’s attempt on August 5, 2019, to change the disputed status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir had failed and had been rejected by the Kashmiri people.
He said the move was made under the fascist and extremist ideology of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that Pakistan would continue to stand firmly with the people of Kashmir.
“The Pakistani nation stands like a rock with the Kashmiri people and will never allow the illegal, expansionist and colonial designs of the Modi government to succeed,” he said.
Barrister Danyal said India’s unilateral steps of August 5, 2019, were in clear violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, international law and the UN Charter. He said such actions could not be accepted by any civilised and law-abiding society.
The parliamentary secretary maintained that India could not change the internationally recognised disputed status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir through force, coercion or one-sided legislation.
He said efforts to alter the demographic structure of the territory, settle non-locals and undermine the religious, cultural and national identity of the Kashmiri people would not succeed.
Barrister Danyal said that despite severe atrocities, sieges, arbitrary arrests, restrictions on freedom of expression and grave human rights violations by Indian occupation forces, the Kashmiri people’s desire for freedom remained unshaken.
He said Kashmiris had rendered unmatched sacrifices for decades in pursuit of their right to self-determination, and their struggle could not be suppressed.
The ceremony was attended by Member National Assembly Engineer Qamar-ul-Islam Raja, Member National Assembly Asiya Naz Tanoli, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Nadeem Nasir, Member Provincial Assembly Shazia Rizwan, Waqar-un-Nisa College Principal Professor Zahida Parveen, faculty members, students and people from different walks of life.
