PHEC Chairperson Stresses Nutrition, Awareness in Fight Against Smog

Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan (HI, SI), Chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), attended a seminar titled “Smog and Human Health: Risks, Prevention, and the Role of Nutrition” as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said smog had emerged as a serious public health concern, with damaging effects on respiratory health and overall well-being. He underlined the need for preventive measures to minimise exposure to air pollution.

He said balanced nutrition could play an important role in supporting general health, particularly the use of fruits and vegetables rich in essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan appreciated Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen (T.I.), Vice Chancellor of Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF), for her visionary leadership in promoting community awareness. He also praised Dr Madiha Ilyas, Head of the Department of Nutritional Sciences, for her contributions to creating awareness about the health risks linked to smog and effective preventive strategies.

The PHEC chairperson said environmental awareness, preventive healthcare and nutritional education should be integrated to help build healthier and better-informed communities. He also encouraged students to actively participate in public awareness initiatives, saying they had a responsibility to promote healthier practices and respond to the growing challenges caused by air pollution.

At the end of the seminar, Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan distributed souvenirs among the guest speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions.
