ISLAMABAD, Sept 1: Leaders of traders’ associations from Islamabad have announced support for Jamaat-e-Islami’s countrywide movement against the petroleum levy, describing the campaign as a national and public cause.
The announcement was made at a dinner hosted by the Pakistan Business Forum in honour of the trader community. Naib Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Liaqat Baloch and Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad Engineer Nasrullah Randhawa attended the event as special guests.
Representatives of several trade bodies addressed the gathering, including leaders from the Pakistan Business Forum, Pakistan Traders Alliance, All Pakistan Traders Union, Pakistan Small Industries, Pakistan Computer Association and Fruit and Vegetable Association. Among those who spoke were Kashif Chaudhry, Tahir Chaudhry, Tahir Ayub, Awais Satti and Zahid Qureshi.
A large number of representatives from traders’ organisations of different commercial centres of Islamabad also participated, including G-13, G-9, G-11, F-7, G-8, Tarnol, Bhara Kahu, Lehtrar Road, PWD and Aabpara.
The trader leaders extended full support to the demand for abolition of the petroleum levy and relief for the people. They also expressed confidence in the leadership of Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and termed the ongoing movement against the petroleum levy, inflation and IPPs a national movement.
The trader community announced its support for the September 3 countrywide strike and resolved to continue a joint struggle for the solution of traders’ problems, an end to the economic crisis and provision of relief to the public.
