KARACHI: The Towns Premier League (TPL), a town-level tape-ball cricket competition, has been launched in Karachi with the aim of encouraging sports activities and strengthening grassroots cricket across the city.
The inaugural ceremony was held in Karachi, where Sindh Local Government Minister and Patron-in-Chief of the Towns Premier League, Nasir Hussain Shah, attended as the chief guest.
A total of 26 teams are taking part in the TPL Tape-Ball League. These include 25 teams representing Karachi’s towns and one team representing the Mayor of Karachi. The official anthem of the TPL and the jerseys of the participating teams were also unveiled at the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Nasir Hussain Shah said the soft launch of the TPL marked the beginning of a new cricket journey for Karachi. He congratulated the TPL team for bringing together all 25 towns of the city through the positive force of sports.
He appealed to all towns to fully support the TPL organisers, saying the league was designed to promote inclusion among Karachi’s youth, grassroots cricket, local talent, healthy competition, sportsmanship and community participation.
The minister said the event was being held with the approval and support of the Sindh government’s Local Government Department. He added that the purpose of the TPL was to provide positive and constructive opportunities to young people in Karachi.
Nasir Hussain Shah said the cricket league was a completely non-political sports initiative, focused on promoting sports, youth development, unity and community engagement. He further said all 25 towns were working with the organisers in cooperation and coordination.
He said the TPL would offer maximum opportunities to local young cricketers to represent their respective towns and play their part in the development of grassroots cricket in Karachi.
