Strengthening Balochistan Polio Campaign Preparedness

Ms. Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, met in Quetta with Muhammad Anwar-ul-Haq, Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center, and Inam-ul-Haq, Balochistan EOC Coordinator, to finalise preparations for the February Polio campaign. The delegation reviewed Balochistan’s epidemiological situation and identified the operational support required from the National EOC to ensure an effective polio campaign across the province.

The meeting focused on aligning resources and strengthening surveillance so vaccination teams can reach every area, including remote and hard-to-reach communities. Participants discussed coordination mechanisms between national and provincial teams to address logistical challenges and streamline field operations during the campaign period.

Polio campaign success was framed around sustained field presence and targeted support for frontline staff. Ms. Ayesha praised the dedication of polio teams and frontline workers who continue door-to-door efforts to protect children, emphasising the need for continued collaboration to close immunity gaps in high-risk districts.

National and provincial teams agreed to maintain close communication in the lead-up to February, with the National EOC committed to providing technical and operational assistance as required. The coordinated approach aims to enhance campaign coverage and sustain momentum towards a polio-free Balochistan.
