Pakistan Syria Advance Agricultural Cooperation

On 24 September 2025 in Islamabad, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met with Syrian Ambassador Dr. Ramez Al-Ary to discuss steps to deepen agricultural cooperation, trade and cultural exchange between the two countries.
The federal minister stressed that Pakistan and Syria share long-standing historical, cultural and religious ties that provide a strong foundation for collaboration. He described the agricultural sector as holding exceptional potential and reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to expand technical and commercial cooperation with Syria.
Mr. Hussain noted that a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation has already been signed, creating a framework for long-term collaboration in agricultural research, technology exchange and food security. He said Pakistan stands ready to offer expertise and technical assistance in modern farming and food security strategies as part of those efforts.
Both sides agreed on the creation of a joint working group to institutionalize and accelerate cooperation. The JWG will review practical areas including modern cultivation techniques, water resource management, measures to raise productivity and avenues to promote agricultural trade between Pakistan and Syria.
The minister observed that, once international sanctions on Syria are lifted, Syria could emerge as a valuable trading partner for Pakistani agricultural commodities, fruits and value-added products. He emphasized that strengthened agricultural cooperation would not only boost bilateral trade but also contribute to sustainable development and prosperity in the region.
Dr. Ramez Al-Ary welcomed Pakistan’s continued support and endorsed the proposal for a joint working group, underscoring Syria’s commitment to close cooperation with Pakistan in mutually beneficial sectors. Both delegations expressed determination to expand the scope of collaboration and further cement the brotherly ties between their countries.
