A lively Girls Sports gala opened at Government City Girls Degree College Gulbahar in Peshawar, drawing students and faculty into a day of spirited competition and community energy. The event showcased both athletic skill and the growing interest in sports among female students across the region.
The opening ceremony was formally led by Arshad Hussain, Assistant Professor and Chairman of the Sports Department at Government College Peshawar, alongside the Secretary General of the Provincial Throwball Association. Director Sports of City Girls Degree College, Ms. Najma Naz Qazi, attended with faculty members Ms. Afshan Gul, Ms. Saadia, and Ms. Sadaf Sher, reflecting strong institutional support for the Girls Sports initiative.
Exciting throwball and table tennis contests featured teams from City Girls College Gulbahar, Girls College Nahqi, Girls College Gulshan-e-Rahman Colony, Frontier Girls Degree College, Bacha Khan College, Dabagari College, Tajoobi B College Charsadda, Government Girls Degree College Umarzai Charsadda, Government Girls Degree College No.1 Charsadda and Government Girls Degree College Dargai Charsadda, with each squad determined to deliver its best performance.
Addressing the participants, Arshad Hussain stressed the value of integrating healthy activities into academic life and noted that sports help students sharpen both physical and mental capabilities. He said, ‘Sports instill teamwork, confidence, and a foundation for a better future among the youth,’ urging colleges to continue nurturing athletic programs alongside education.
Najma Naz Qazi and other faculty members praised the active participation and competitive spirit on display, highlighting how such inter-college events contribute to character building, fitness and wider opportunities for girls in the city. Throughout the gala the focus on fair play and enthusiasm was evident as teams supported one another and competed with determination.
