PPP Moves to Support Foreign Medical Graduates
Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto held a follow-up meeting with Dr. Rafey Sher in Islamabad to address mounting concerns over recent Pakistan Medical and Dental Council policies affecting Foreign Medical Graduates. The senator strongly condemned what he described as inconsistent and unfair measures by the PMDC, stressing that young doctors who trained at recognised international institutions deserve transparent and equitable treatment.
The meeting underlined the Pakistan Peoples Party commitment to stand with the youth and the medical community. Senator Bhutto made it clear that the rights of Foreign Medical Graduates will be raised at parliamentary platforms and that the PPP will pursue legislative and institutional avenues to seek redress and clarity from the regulator.
Dr. Rafey Sher welcomed the senator’s assurances and highlighted the importance of proactive political support. He also praised the progressive vision of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, noting that such leadership can help create new opportunities for returning graduates and strengthen Pakistan’s healthcare workforce.
Both sides expressed concern over confusing and contradictory statements issued by the PMDC, which have created anxiety among Foreign Medical Graduates awaiting licensure. They agreed that consistent guidelines and transparent procedures are essential to restore confidence in the licensing process and to ensure fairness for applicants trained abroad.
The discussion concluded on a constructive note, with renewed PPP commitment to press for clear policy direction from the PMDC and to ensure that the voices of Foreign Medical Graduates are heard at every institutional level. The party signalled it will monitor developments closely and work with stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues affecting young medical professionals returning to Pakistan.
