Restoring Javed Manzil Strengthens Ties
TİKA and the Government of Punjab’s Department of Tourism, Antiquities and Museums have signed a memorandum of understanding to rehabilitate Javed Manzil, the beloved residence of Pakistan’s national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The agreement marks a collaborative step toward conserving a site of deep cultural and historical importance to Pakistan.
The rehabilitation of Javed Manzil is framed as more than an architectural project; it is a deliberate act of remembrance and gratitude. Officials described the initiative as a tribute to Iqbal’s vision of unity and the enduring bond between Pakistan and Turkey, reflecting shared values that go beyond preservation of brick and mortar.
“Alone we may smile, but together we can laugh; alone we may enjoy, but together we celebrate. Without one another we are nothing.” These lines attributed to Allama Iqbal were cited as a guiding sentiment for the collaboration, underlining how cultural heritage projects can reinforce social ties and mutual respect between nations.
By committing to the restoration of Javed Manzil, TİKA and Punjab authorities aim to conserve the legacy of a poet who stood by Turkey in trying times while also reaffirming the cultural partnership between the two countries. The project is presented as a preservation of memory as much as an investment in shared heritage for future generations.
