A high-level meeting at the Ministry of National Health chaired by Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal examined measures to expand organ transplant services across Pakistan. Administrator Hota, the Additional Secretary, the Joint Secretary Admin and other senior ministry officials attended to review current barriers and coordination needs for organ transplant care.
The minister underlined the need to remove administrative and legal complexities that hinder organ donation, urging swift action to promote donation trends so eligible patients can receive timely treatment. Strengthening public confidence and streamlining approval processes were highlighted as priorities to increase donor registrations and referrals for organ transplant.
Specific guidance was given to simplify existing rules on bone marrow transplant and make them more practicable, with the aim of reducing approval delays that affect patient outcomes. Officials were instructed to revise procedures that create bottlenecks while ensuring safeguards remain in place to protect donors and recipients.
Mr Kamal directed relevant institutions to enhance performance and implement immediate steps to make the organ transplant system more active and transparent. He stressed that promoting organ donation is a national and ethical responsibility essential to saving lives, and called for coordinated efforts across government bodies to deliver results for patients in need.
