Advancing AI in Media at Usi Forum
The International Forum on Intellectual Communications took place in Usi, China from November 7 to 9, 2025, organized by China Media Corporation in partnership with the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province. The opening ceremony drew senior delegates including the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Media Corporation, CGTN Editor-in-Chief Fan Yun, a permanent member of the Jiangsu Province Party Committee, Usi Mayor Jiangfeng, and other high-level guests from China and abroad.
Chinese media representatives described practical experience using AI in media for tasks such as staging large public events and deepening audience engagement, while also outlining efforts to strengthen AI governance in broadcasting and content production. Speakers emphasized how AI in media can enhance production workflows and public interaction when coupled with clearer regulatory frameworks.
Oleg Kopylov, Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, highlighted the SCO’s priorities for AI development and underlined member states’ recognition of both the opportunities and risks, including misuse for illegal purposes. Delegates referenced the outcomes of the Tianjin SCO Summit on September 1, 2025, where heads of state adopted a Statement committing to deepen international cooperation on artificial intelligence.
On the sidelines of the forum, the SCO Deputy Secretary General held discussions with senior managers from China Media Corporation and other leading national outlets. A meeting with the chairman of CCTV.COM, Go Tun, focused on prospective collaboration between mass media and the Organization’s Secretariat, including joint projects and expanded working contacts to improve the SCO’s representation in the information space ahead of its 25th anniversary in 2026.
For Pakistani media and media policy observers, developments at the Usi forum signal an emerging regional effort to align technology deployment with regulatory norms. Continued dialogue on AI in media and multilateral projects announced at the forum may influence how Pakistani broadcasters and newsrooms approach AI tools, cross-border cooperation, and content stewardship in the months ahead.
