Empowering Graduates at COMSATS Convocation
The 47th and 48th convocation ceremonies of COMSATS University Islamabad were held at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad, chaired by Executive Director COMSATS Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Nafees Zakaria as chief guest. Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Incharge Campus Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar, deans, campus directors, faculty, students and parents attended the events that celebrated academic achievement and future-ready skills.
In the 47th convocation 1,160 graduates, including 29 PhD scholars, received degrees and 26 university medals for the Fall 2024 session. The 48th convocation honoured 1,184 graduates, including 48 PhDs, with degrees and 54 university medals for Spring 2025, bringing the combined total to over 2,300 graduates recognized across both ceremonies.
Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar congratulated the graduating cohort and urged students to prepare for Industry 5.0, highlighting that Pakistani graduates must adapt to a rapidly evolving skills market. He said that COMSATS will actively support students to become entrepreneurs and job creators, and warned that many professions risk losing relevance unless they modernize in response to advances such as artificial intelligence.
Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Nafees Zakaria emphasized the importance of science and technology for Pakistan’s socio-economic progress and national sovereignty. He reiterated COMSATS’ mission to strengthen science and technology across countries of the Global South, and called on graduates to launch startups and use innovative ideas to revive communities and drive development.
Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar reported that during the Fall 2025 semester the campus disbursed approximately PKR 80 million in scholarships. He noted the campus houses more than 12,500 students, including around 400 PhD scholars, and highlighted a strong research output with 1,759 publications in the W category so far this year, underscoring the university’s research momentum.
The COMSATS convocation reinforced the university’s focus on high-quality education, research excellence and entrepreneurship as pathways to national development. The ceremonies concluded with the formal awarding of degrees and medals to graduating students, marking a milestone for the institution and its alumni as they move into professional and entrepreneurial roles.
