Boosting Rawalpindi Beautification Drive

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Amir Khattak visited the Horticulture Agency Rawalpindi office where the managing director and staff briefed him on ongoing and planned beautification and upgradation projects for parks and green belts across the city. The meeting reviewed project timelines, nursery production targets and maintenance systems that support green infrastructure in Rawalpindi.

The commissioner praised the agency’s work and highlighted the importance of improving the plant breeding process at the Gorakhpur Nursery to support citywide landscaping needs. He urged the Horticulture Agency to enhance nursery operations so plants and flowers reach their full potential under a coordinated care regime, reinforcing the Rawalpindi beautification efforts already underway.

Specific directives included the aesthetic treatment of metro track pillars, measurable improvements to park security, and strengthened protection for the Horticulture Agency office. Engineer Amir Khattak emphasised that visible upgrades along transit corridors and well-secured public spaces will bolster community confidence and complement the broader plantation campaign to turn Rawalpindi into a city of flowers.

The commissioner called for a plantation strategy that favours resilient species which establish quickly and can be maintained through a regular integrated system. He also stressed that parks must provide accessible and high-quality recreational facilities, with special provisions for persons with disabilities to ensure inclusive public spaces as part of the Rawalpindi beautification programme.

Ahmed Hassan Ranjha reaffirmed that the Horticulture Agency Rawalpindi is committed to serving residents and will implement the commissioner’s instructions in line with the Punjab government vision. The agency indicated it will intensify nursery production, expand plantation drives and coordinate security and maintenance measures to sustain long-term urban greening.
