Punjab development advances with Rs10bn project approvals

The Provincial Development Working Party, in its 69th meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Lahore, approved development schemes totaling over Rs10 billion, signalling renewed momentum for Punjab development. The session was chaired by Chairman of the Planning and Development Board, Dr. Naeem Rauf, and attended by Secretary P&D Rafaqat Ali, Chief Economist Imtiaz Ahmed, board members and officials from relevant departments.

Major allocations include Rs2.80 billion for the dualisation, rehabilitation and improvement of the Okara–Depalpur Road in District Okara, and Rs3.47 billion for the dualisation and rehabilitation of the road from Housing Colony Chowk to Farooqabad in District Sheikhupura. These road upgrades are a key element of the province’s broader Punjab development agenda to improve connectivity and reduce travel times for commuters and freight.

Further investment of Rs2.55 billion was approved for the rehabilitation and construction of the Lodhran–Jalalpur Road from N-5, which also includes the construction of a flyover to ease traffic flow. The PDWP allocated Rs1.49 billion for establishing an integrated Record Preservation and Public Access Management System at divisional headquarters across the province, a step expected to modernise records handling and improve public access to information.

Officials also approved a position paper for salaries covering 164 project posts under various development schemes and sanctioned the creation of posts for the Punjab Probation and Parole Service. Together these measures are designed to strengthen governance, enhance public service delivery and support sustained Punjab development across urban and rural districts.
