Deepening Pakistan Turkey Parliamentary Diplomacy

On April 18, 2026 in Istanbul, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met his Turkish counterpart Numan Kurtulmuş on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The meeting highlighted shared commitments to parliamentary diplomacy and reinforced the long-standing fraternal ties between Pakistan and Türkiye.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq warmly congratulated Türkiye for successfully hosting the IPU forum and praised the hospitality offered to delegations from around the world. He noted that global parliamentary gatherings such as IPU 152 provide vital platforms for elected representatives to exchange views, share experiences and build consensus on common challenges facing the region and the wider international community.

Both leaders discussed bilateral relations, regional developments and issues of mutual interest, reaffirming a joint resolve to promote peace and stability. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that war and conflict cannot resolve disputes and stressed the importance of peaceful resolution through sustained dialogue, underlining Pakistan’s consistent role in facilitating negotiations and reducing tensions.

The Turkish Speaker acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and specifically commended the timely contributions made to de-escalation efforts. He praised the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff & Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts to foster stability.

Both Speakers agreed to intensify parliamentary cooperation through enhanced institutional ties, regular exchange of delegations and closer parliamentary engagement. The leaders underlined that stronger Pakistan Turkey parliamentary diplomacy will support dialogue, mutual respect and constructive engagement at regional and global levels.
