Recognising Mohsin Nawaz Boosts Shooting Sports
At the 2026 PSL final closing ceremony in Lahore, Mohsin Nawaz was honoured under the Pakistan Super League’s Hamaray Heroes initiative, a recognition that brought long-range shooting into the national sporting conversation. The event at Gaddafi Stadium assembled cricket officials, players and distinguished athletes from multiple disciplines as the PCB used its platform to spotlight achievements beyond cricket.
Nawaz thanked PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the selection panel for the acknowledgement and described the honour as meaningful for a sport that has largely operated outside mainstream attention. He praised the PCB leadership for organising a successful tournament that demonstrated Pakistan’s capability to host major sporting events and for using its reach to promote broader sports awareness.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mohsin Nawaz paid tribute to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for provincial support of sports initiatives, saying government backing helps promote healthy lifestyles and creates pathways for emerging talent. He expressed hope that the Hamaray Heroes recognition would draw more young athletes to shooting and other precision sports.
Details of Nawaz’s career underlined the significance of the honour. The 42-year-old from Faisalabad has spent more than two decades in F-Class long-range shooting and holds 10 international individual medals, the highest tally for any Pakistani in the discipline. His international breakthrough came in 2018 when he became the first Pakistani to win gold at the NRA USA National Long Range Championship.
Nawaz’s record includes a silver at the 2023 European Long Range Championship at Bisley and three golds and two silvers at the 2022 Western Bisley Long Range Championship across multiple ranges. In 2023 he set a Pakistan record at Bisley’s 800-yard range with a score of 75.13 V-points. His other international podium finishes include silver at the 2019 CIHPRS Championship in Indianapolis and bronze at the 2021 South Africa Long Range Open Championship.
He has been nominated for the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his achievements; if conferred at the scheduled investiture in May 2026, Mohsin Nawaz would be the first shooter in Pakistan to receive this civilian honour, a landmark for a sport that has had limited institutional support compared with mainstream athletics.
At the PSL ceremony Nawaz reiterated calls for practical steps to grow shooting sports, including establishing 50-metre ranges in major cities and reforming import policies to make equipment more accessible to aspiring athletes. He said that with improved facilities and government support Pakistan can develop internationally competitive shooters and broaden opportunities for young talent across precision disciplines.
